BOY

Writing Home

This chapter talks about how Dahl wrote to his Mum every single week until his mother died, 32 years later. In his boarding school, each boy had to write to their parents at least once a week and thats what Dahl did. The headmaster was checking the letters not for spelling mistakes but for what the students wrote. The students werent brave enough to write that they hated one master at the school for example because they were way too scared of the scary large headmaster.

I think that it was right that the school made them write a letter a least once a week so that they could have some contact with their parents. But it did not have so much sence to write to the parents what the headmaster wanted them to write so I dont think it was nice of him to do that.

BOY

Going to Norway and The Magic Island

Roald Dahl talks about what he did in his summer hollydays. He always went to Norway for his vacation. His mother had to pack six suitcases!!! First, they took the train to London, then another one for a town, then they continued by a big boat to Oslo. They stayed for a night at their grandparent's house. Their grandparents were called Bestemama and Bestepapa. The next day, Raold Dahl and his family took a smaller boat to a tiny island to an old hotel owned by some old people. The hotel was so old that they didn't even have a normal toilet! If you needed to use the toiet, you had to go out of the house and the there, you sat on a hole. Disgusting!!!  When the kids were older, Roald Dahl's mom bought a very old motorboat. That way, they were able to sail to far islands. That was really fun in Roald Dahl's oppinion, but one of his sisters dind't appreciate it so much!
